Projects

Rolling stock market review

Market and economic analysis to support a due diligence review, led by The Hub Transport Advisory, for a major UK rolling stock investment project. This involved detailed analysis of UK passenger rail demand patterns drawing on a range of published datasets, an assessment of major investment programmes, forthcoming policy proposals and their implications for rolling stock investment requirements over the next 20 – 30 years.

Hengrove Park socio-economic impacts evaluation

Evaluation of a programme of infrastructure works in south Bristol led by Bristol City Council and funded by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, to support a brand new neighbourhood with over 1,400 homes and a new public park. Our role involves undertaking a detailed progress review, focusing on strategic enabling works including highways, public realm, new buildings, utilities and green space, as well as evaluation of the programme’s logic model including how its activities and outputs can deliver positive long-term outcomes and benefits for the local population.

Employment benefits of a major UK self storage business

Analysis of benefits resulting from small business operations enabled and facilitated by a UK network of self-storage facilities located across the UK, drawing on extensive primary survey data.

Detailed modelling of economic benefits resulting from local employment, supply chain activities and generation of local taxes.

Economic case for a new industry park

Analysis of employment impacts, economic drivers and market sectors to support a major industry park that forms a core part of a proposed new garden settlement in England. The park will combine manufacturing spaces, offices, R&D and educational facilities.

The new development is built around sustainability principles and renewable energy generation, with a focus on industrial activities that support the net zero transition.

This work included quantitative appraisal of employment and productivity benefits.

Social Value Plan for major urban housing scheme proposal

Development of an extensive social value programme on behalf of Bouygues UK, to improve long-term outcomes for local people and support economic vitality of the area. Measures included: workforce diversity and inclusion (high representation of traditionally disadvantaged groups); apprenticeships; free training and careers advice; work experience and partnerships with schools; mentoring to local businesses; staff volunteering; support / donations to local NGOs; and construction of a new community centre. Within the project structure, a framework for community engagement and co-design was defined from an early stage in the design process. (More info).

Trilink Rail Upgrade Programme OBC

Input into the Outline Business Case for Trilink, a major programme of renewals works on the northern section of the West Coast Main Line (UK) between Crewe and Carlisle. This work was delivered on behalf of Network Rail (working in partnership with The Hub – Transport Advisory). More info.

Filwood Broadway LUF Bid

Comprehensive Economic Case appraisal including modelling of benefits and costs and completion of accompanying narrative to support Bristol City Council’s successful Levelling Up Fund bid for a major urban regeneration project. (More info.)

Germany A1 Highway Due Diligence

Lenders’ due diligence review of project contracts on behalf of a consortium bidding for a 30-year PPP contract to upgrade, maintain and operate a section of the A1 Autobahn between Münster – Osnabrück. (More info.)

University of South Wales Virtual Experience Programme

Development of a series of applied work experience exercises, involving development of a business case for a local regeneration project. The aim is to provide students with applied, practical skills and experience. (More info.)
